Step 4: Market Research

Read the information on How to Research Your Market? and use that in your research that follows:

You are going to research your market in the field. The two types of target groups that will be the focus are:

  1. customers and
  2. entrepreneurs.

1. Customers

Create your own questionnaire based on the product that you want to sell and the promotion that goes with it. Look at the results of your assignment in step 3.

    1. Interview five customers downtown to find out statistics about the target group. Is the product SMART-based? Is it reliable? What part of product will you promote? etc.
    2. Write a short report on the outcomes and mention for which of the P’s you can use this information for your own business plan.

2. Entrepreneurs

Talk to at least two entrepreneurs (for example: a shop owner or a shop manager) and find out as much as you can on the importance of a business plan and get some tips:

    1. Go to Chinatown and interview 2 English speaking entrepreneurs on what to think of when setting up a business plan. Write your questions beforehand, as this will help you out.
    2. Write a short report on the outcomes and mention what is useful to you and why. (Optional: how did you experience the interview? And why?). Don’t forget to ask for tips! And add the interview questions too.

Note: the tips that you get from your interviewees will benefit you in your presentation at the end of this webquest. These tips will make your research unique! They are the focus points when doing your interview and writing your report
